In-School Program
Athlete Request Form
University of Regina Athletics is excited to bring Cougar and Ram athletes into physical education classes throughout Regina’s elementary schools! The start of the 2008-09 season marks the first year of the University of Regina Athletics In-School Program and we are thrilled to offer the expertise of our athletes to Regina youth. This program provides the opportunity for local teachers to make a request to have a Cougar or Ram athlete attend one of their physical education classes to teach their specific sport. Introductory sport skills are taught in a fun environment while stressing teamwork and sportsmanship. Requests can also be made to have athletes take part in other classroom activities.
Program Overview
• University of Regina Cougars and Rams athletes provide instruction to local elementary school students in standard physical education classes.
• Program is tailored to be delivered in a physical education class (approximately 1 hour in length). It is the responsibility of the school to ensure that appropriate facilities and equipment are available.
• Requests can also be made to have athletes take part in other classroom activities.
Goals
• Provide a program that uses the Cougars and Rams brand to help teach good sportsmanship, teamwork, and the basics of the specific sport.
• Help physical education teachers facilitate interest in various sports through experienced athletes and fun activities.
Restrictions
• In the first year of the program we are restricting the program to elementary schools only.
• Applications will be reviewed on a first come – first served basis.
• Depending on athlete schedules (school, practice, games, work) we may not be able to accommodate all requests.
• Classes are limited to one booking per sport in a given school year.
In order to take part in this program, teachers are asked to complete and submit the
Athlete Request Form. While we may not be able to accommodate all requests, we will make every effort to coordinate a time that works for both the class and the athlete.
