The Mississippi RiverKings of the Central Hockey League announced Monday that they have signed former University of Regina goaltender Brant Hilton.

Hilton spent three seasons in a Cougar uniform, breaking the school record for lowest goals-against average in a career (2.70) and holding a .903 save percentage in 51 conference games played.

He broke onto the scene with a stellar rookie season in 2007-08, establishing a University of Regina single-season record with a 2.26 goals-against average and being named to both the Canada West All-Rookie Team and the CIS All-Rookie Team.

“Brant came in with something to prove and he played exceptional for us for three seasons,” Cougars head coach Blaine Sautner said. “He thought it was time to turn pro and we wish him the best of luck with Mississippi.”

Hilton, who was also part of Team Canada’s entry at the 2009 Winter Universiade in China, ended up with a 19-30 career record and recorded five shutouts for the Cougars.

Mississippi finished in fourth place with a 33-24-7 record in the CHL’s Northern Conference last year. The RiverKings are based in Southaven, Miss.
