Rams picked to finish fifth in Canada West coaches' poll

The Canada West Universities Athletic Association announced Monday the results of the inaugural preseason football coaches’ poll, with the University of Regina Rams selected to finish fifth in the six-team conference.

The Rams received 11 points in the poll, two behind fourth-place UBC (13) and four ahead of sixth-place Alberta (7). Voting was based on a 7-5-3-2-1 system, with coaches not permitted to vote for their own team.

Calgary was the unanimous choice to repeat as the conference champion, garnering all five possible first-place votes for a total of 35 points. Saskatchewan placed second with a total of 27 points, while Manitoba ranked third with 15 points.

The Rams will kick off their 2010 season on Friday night against the Manitoba Bisons at Mosaic Stadium. Game time is scheduled for 7 p.m.
