In its final non-conference match before the Canada West schedule starts, the University of Regina’s women’s soccer team registered a 2-0 victory over Medicine Hat College on Saturday afternoon at the U of R Field.

Fourth-year defender Dana Renneberg opened the scoring for Regina late in the first half, connecting on a Tegan Koroluk corner kick and beating Rattlers keeper Micheleen Devine with a low blast.

The Cougars extended their lead in the 79th minute. Molly Glass fed a through ball to Kimbi Wiebe, who slipped a short pass over to Adrianna Bonutti in tight. Bonutti made no mistake, putting the ball in the right corner to notch her first of the season.

Michelle Anderson made two saves in the net for Regina. Her top save was in injury time in the second half, as Medicine Hat’s Kailey Klaiber was sent in on a partial breakaway. Klaiber got a shot off, but Anderson dove to her right to make the save and preserve the clean sheet.

The win gives the Cougars a 1-3-1 record in their five non-conference matches. Regina will open up the Canada West schedule at home on Sept. 11 and Sept. 12 against Fraser Valley and Victoria.
