The University of Regina’s women’s soccer team was defeated by a 1-0 score by the Manitoba Bisons in a non-conference match on Friday night at the U of R Field.

Manitoba’s Sarah Haiko notched the lone goal of the contest in the 35th minute on a penalty kick. The Cougars had a few golden opportunities to tie up the match, most notably in the 83rd minute when a Jayde McFee cross nearly caught the boot of Zoe Threlfall in tight.

“It was a well-played game by our team,” Cougars head coach Bob Maltman said. “We had some very good moments of ball movement and showed some real imagination when trying to break down their defence. Tegan Koroluk had a good game and put a lot of miles on for us in the midfield.”

The Cougars will host the Medicine Hat College Rattlers on Saturday at 3:45 p.m. in their final non-conference match of the season. The U of R opens up its Canada West schedule at home on Sept. 11 and 12 against Fraser Valley and Victoria.
