Canadian Interuniversity Sport announced Monday that the University of Regina will play host to the 2013 CIS Women's Basketball Championship and the 2014 CIS Women's Volleyball Championship at the Centre for Kinesiology, Health & Sport.
The U of R will be hosting women's basketball nationals for the third time in history, while 2014 will mark the first time that the school has hosted the women's volleyball championship.
"Given the national interest in these events, it's a tremendous honour to have the opportunity to host two championships in the coming years," University of Regina athletic director Dick White said. "It's a strong endorsement of our athletic program and the history of hosting exceptional events in our community."
The 2011 women’s basketball championship was awarded to Windsor on Monday, while Calgary will host in 2012. Laval, McMaster, and Sherbrooke will all play host to the women’s volleyball championship before it comes to Regina in 2014.
The two national championships will be the eighth and ninth that the University of Regina has hosted.
The U of R’s bid to host the CIS Men’s Hockey Championship in 2013 and 2014 was unsuccessful, as the University of Saskatchewan was awarded the national tournament in both years.
