Howald named head coach of National Women's Under-18 Team

Hockey Canada announced Thursday that University of Regina head women’s hockey coach
Sarah Howald will also serve as the head coach of the National Women’s Under-18 team for the 2010-11 season.
Howald will be Canada’s head coach for a three-game series against the United States from August 18-21 in Lake Placid, N.Y., and will also lead the team in defense of its 2010 gold medal at the 2011 IIHF World Women’s Under-18 Championship next spring in Sweden.
She will be the head coach of one of Canada’s national teams for the second time in three seasons, having led Canada’s National Women’s Under-22 Team to a silver medal at the MLP Cup in Ravensburg, Germany during the 2008-09 season. Howald spent the 2007-08 season as an assistant coach with Canada’s National Women’s Under-22 Team, and served as the team’s video coach during the 2006-07 season.
Howald has been the head coach of the U of R’s women’s hockey team for each of its 12 seasons, leading the team to a Canada West championship and a silver medal at the CIAU Championship in 2001. She has guided the Cougars to an impressive 125-77-9-11 all-time conference record.
