The University of Regina’s Tait Nystuen finished in seventh place in the second heat of the 400-metre hurdles at the 2010 IAAF World Junior Championships in Moncton, N.B.

Nystuen’s time of 53.21 seconds failed to qualify him for the next round, as the top three runners in each heat along with the next three best times advance to the semifinals.

“I didn’t have the race I was capable of,” Nystuen said. “I messed up my first steps and after that the rhythm was off. My goal was to get here and get international experience and I did do that.”

Nystuen ranked 30th out of the 49 competitors in the preliminaries. He qualified to run in this event two weeks ago with a time of 51.79 seconds at the Canadian Junior Championships.

Nystuen is entering his second year of eligibility with the Cougars.
