The University of Regina's
Tait Nystuen blew away the field in the 400-metre hurdles at the Canadian Junior Championships in Moncton on Sunday, winning the event in a time of 51.79 seconds.
Nystuen’s time qualifies him for the 2010 IAAF World Junior Championships, which will be held in Moncton, N.B. from July 19 to July 25. He will become the second Cougar hurdler in the last three years to compete in the event, as
Justin Baker ran the 110-metre hurdles in 2008 in Turkey.
Nystuen’s time is also the fastest ever run by a Saskatchewan athlete, breaking the record of 51.88 seconds set by Lindsay Tallon in 2001.
The heats for the 400-metre hurdles at the world juniors are scheduled for the morning of July 21 at the Moncton 2010 Stadium, located on the campus of the Université de Moncton.
Nystuen has four years of eligibility remaining with the Cougars.
