University of Regina women’s basketball head coach Dave Taylor announced Thursday that post Kayla Hannah and guard Taylor Pelletier have committed to the Cougars.

Hannah, a 6’0” post out of Athol Murray College of Notre Dame, helped the Hounds advance to the 3A provincial championship game in March. She has also represented Saskatchewan at the 2007 Western Canada Summer Games, the 2008 under-17 national championship, and the 2009 Canada Summer Games.

“Kayla gives us some much-needed size at the post position,” Taylor said. “She’ll be able to back up Brittany Read and give us a physical presence down low. Kayla can immediately handle the physical play of Canada West and will be able to grow into a role as a scorer.”

Pelletier, a 5’6” guard, led Balfour Collegiate to the 5A city championship and a third-place finish at the provincial tournament this season. Like Hannah, Pelletier has represented Team Saskatchewan for the previous three seasons.

“Taylor will be able to help us as a scorer once she’s able to adjust to the university game,” Taylor said. “She’s a very athletic two-guard that comes from a winning program.”

Hannah and Pelletier are the first two members of Taylor’s 2010 recruiting class.
