University of Regina women’s wrestler Jasmine Slinn took the silver medal at 48 kilograms over the weekend at the 13th International Junior Champions Tournament in Ankara, Turkey.

Slinn advanced to the final before losing to Turkey’s Burcu Kebic to end up in second place in the division. She qualified for the tournament back in March after winning her weight class at the national junior championships in Fredericton, N.B.

Men’s wrestler Connor Malloy also participated in the tournament, putting up a 2-1 record to finish in seventh place at 74 kilograms.

Both Slinn and Malloy will now travel to Germany. Slinn will compete in the Grand Prix of Germany on May 21 and 22, while Malloy will participate in a camp with the national junior team before returning to Regina on May 25. Malloy will also represent Canada at the Junior World Championships in Hungary in late July.

University of Regina assistant coach Dan McGee coached both Slinn and Malloy at the tournament. Both wrestlers will return for their third season of eligibility with the Cougars in 2010-11.
