The University of Regina Rams released their 2010 schedule on Wednesday, and will kick off the upcoming season against a very familiar opponent.

For the fifth consecutive year, the Rams will square off against the University of Manitoba in their season opener. It will mark the fourth time in the last five seasons that the Rams have opened up at home against the Bisons, as the two teams will meet on Friday, Sept. 3 at Mosaic Stadium.

The Rams will then travel to Calgary for a game against the two-time defending Canada West champion Dinos, who were edged by Queen’s in last year’s Vanier Cup. Regina will continue its home schedule against provincial rival Saskatchewan with a game at Mosaic Stadium on Saturday, Sept. 18.

With Simon Fraser leaving Canada West to join the NCAA Div. II ranks, the conference is down to six teams. Canada West football will retain its eight-game schedule, which means that each team will play three opposing schools twice on a rotational basis – this year, the Rams will take on Manitoba, Saskatchewan, and Calgary two times each.

That leaves UBC and Alberta as the two teams the Rams will meet just once this season, and Regina will face those opponents in back-to-back weeks. The Rams will travel to Vancouver for a game against the Thunderbirds on Sept. 24 and will host the Golden Bears at Mosaic Stadium on Saturday, Oct. 2.

Following a bye week, the Rams will finish off the conference schedule with road games in two of the last three weeks – at Manitoba on Oct. 16 and at Saskatchewan in the final game of the season on Oct. 29. The Rams will host Calgary at Mosaic Stadium on Friday, Oct. 22.

The conference semifinals are scheduled for Nov. 6, while the Canada West title will be contested for on Nov. 13 at the Hardy Cup. The conference champion will host the Mitchell Bowl on Nov. 20 against the Atlantic University Sport champion, with the winner advancing to the 46th Vanier Cup in Quebec City.

The Rams are currently preparing for their spring camp, which will run from Apr. 30 to May 2 at the U of R Field.
