Men's wrestlers place third at CIS Championships

The University of Regina's men's wrestling team finished in third place in the team standings at the 2010 CIS Championship as the two-day meet wrapped up on Saturday in Calgary.

The Cougars, who finished just one team point behind second-place New Brunswick, had four wrestlers earn silver medals on Saturday. Steven Schneider (54 kg), Gilbert Musonza (57 kg), Kirk Ackerman (61 kg), and Connor Malloy (76 kg) all finished second in their weight classes.

Competing in his first national meet, Gaelan Malloy placed third at 68 kilograms for the Cougars. Jimmy Levesque finished in seventh place at 90 kilograms, while Brian Lunde placed eighth at 82.

On the women's side, the Cougars finished in fifth place with 27 team points. Meghan King was the top finisher for Regina, ending up in second place at 59 kilograms.

Hajar Ashtiani (48 kg) and Jasmine Slinn (51 kg) both finished in third place for the Cougars, while Lisa McKibben placed fourth at 67 kilograms and Jillian Durant was seventh at 63.

The Cougars finished three points behind fourth-place Brock.
