Women’s Volleyball (CIS Ranking: No. 5) – The Cougars fell in four sets to the UBC Thunderbirds on Friday night in the conference semifinals in Winnipeg, but recorded an epic five-set victory over Trinity Western in the Canada West bronze medal match on Saturday to earn a berth in the 2010 CIS Championship in Edmonton. The Cougars will play Laval in the first round on Friday afternoon at 2:30 p.m. MST (3:30 p.m. CST). All 11 matches at the national tournament will be webcast live at
www.ssncanada.ca.
Women’s Basketball (CIS Ranking: No. 4) – The Cougars swept the Lethbridge Pronghorns in the Canada West quarterfinals last weekend in Regina, winning 71-58 on Thursday and 71-51 on Friday to sweep the best-of-three series. The Cougars will now travel to Burnaby, B.C. for the Canada West Final Four, and will start off on Friday night against the Alberta Pandas in the conference semifinals. The top three teams at the Final Four will advance to the 2010 CIS Championship in Hamilton, Ont.
Men’s and Women’s Track & Field (Men’s CIS Ranking: No. 9 / Women’s CIS Ranking: No. 10) – The U of R’s men’s track & field team brought home its first ever conference championship over the weekend, finishing 12½ team points ahead of second-place Saskatchewan.
Jeremy Eckert finished first in the high jump and second in the pentathlon to lead the Cougars with 15 team points scored, while
Les Andersen scored 13. The women’s team finished in fifth place with 38½ team points, led by
Nicole Breker’s first-place finish in the long jump and her third-place finishes in both the 60-metre hurdles and the triple jump. The Cougars will now prepare for the CIS Championships, which will be held in Windsor, Ont. from March 11 to 13.
Men’s Wrestling (CIS Ranking: No. 5) – The Cougars thought they had qualified seven wrestlers for this weekend’s nationals, but will send eight to the tournament after
Jimmy Levesque was added due to an injury.

Women’s Wrestling (CIS Ranking: No. 4) – Four Canada West silver medalists will lead the Cougar charge at the CIS Championships in Calgary.

Jasmine Slinn each took second place in their weight classes at the conference meet two weekends ago, while
Jillian Durant also qualified with a third-place finish. The Cougars enter the weekend ranked No. 4 in the CIS.
Men’s Basketball – The Cougars walked into No. 9-ranked Simon Fraser’s gym and won the first game of their conference quarterfinal series, but the Clan replied with back-to-back victories in Game 2 and Game 3 to secure a spot in the Canada West Final Four. The quarterfinal loss ends Regina’s season and the careers of fifth-year players
Paul Schubach and
Jamal Williams, who both eclipsed the 1000-point barrier as Cougars.
Women’s Hockey – The Cougars were matched up against Alberta in the Canada West semifinals and held their own against the No. 3-ranked Pandas. Alberta took a 3-0 victory in Game 1 on Friday night despite a spectacular 46-save performance by Cougar goalie
Lisa Urban. On Saturday, Regina’s
Paige Wheeler scored with 26 seconds left in regulation to send the game into overtime, but Jennifer Jubb scored for the Pandas in overtime to clinch the series and move on to the Canada West final.
Men’s Hockey – The Cougars (9-17-2) ended their 2009-10 season with a pair of losses to the Manitoba Bisons. Regina lost 4-1 on Friday and 5-3 on Saturday.
Partik Bhungal recorded his first multiple-goal game as a Cougar during Saturday’s loss, opening the scoring less than two minutes into the contest and notching another late in the first. The series marked the final CIS games for fifth-year players
