Game Summary

The University of Regina’s women’s hockey team lost 5-1 to the Manitoba Bisons in a Canada West game on Friday afternoon at the Max Bell Arena in Winnipeg.

Manitoba got three quick goals from Becca King, Kacey Funk, and Kristin Cockerill in the span of five minutes and five seconds late in the first period to open a 3-0 lead, and Rachele Bosc and Addie Miles scored in the second to extend Manitoba’s lead to five.

Rianne Wight scored Regina’s lone goal of the contest just prior to the 14-minute mark of the second. Gina Campbell and Kendra Finch both assisted on Wight’s team-leading seventh goal of the season.

Tara Lacquette made 15 saves to record the win for Manitoba. After Regina starter Lisa Urban was pulled following the first period, Naticia Leskun stopped 14 of 16 shots between the pipes for the Cougars.

The loss drops Regina’s record to 5-8-6, while No. 6-ranked Manitoba improves to 17-4-0.

The two teams will meet again in Winnipeg on Saturday afternoon.
