After putting together a spectacular season for the Cougars, University of Regina fifth-year middle blocker
Beth Clark was named a Canada West first-team all-star on Thursday.
Clark was nothing short of dominant all season long for the Cougars. She led the conference with an average of 4.24 points scored per set, finished second in Canada West in both hitting percentage (.319) and kills (250), and ranked third in the conference with 78 total blocks. She also had a team-leading 26 service aces.
“Beth has been simply outstanding for us,” Cougars head coach
Melanie Sanford said. “Her performance at middle has been instrumental to the success of our program this year.”
Clark, who was a second-team all-star following the 2007-08 season, becomes the first U of R player to be named a Canada West first-team all-star. She also has a chance to become the program’s first All-Canadian since Joely Christian in 1990.
Clark and the Cougars will travel to Winnipeg this weekend for the Canada West Final Four. The team will square off with No. 1-ranked UBC in a semifinal match on Friday and will take on either Trinity Western or Manitoba on Saturday. The Cougars need one win this weekend to advance to the CIS Championship in Edmonton.
