The University of Regina’s track & field teams hosted their final home meet of the season over the weekend, as the Cougars competed in the Queen City Kinsmen Indoor Classic at the Regina Fieldhouse on Friday and Saturday.
The Cougars were led by the men’s 4x400-metre relay team, which consisted of
Les Andersen,
Eric Clark,
Tait Nystuen, and
Justin Baker. The team ran a time of 3:22.15, which sets a new school record and is the sixth fastest time registered in the CIS this year.
Four individuals also recorded first-place finishes on the men’s side, including Baker in the hurdles (8.19 s),
Jeremy Eckert in the long jump (6.64m),
Connor MacDonald in the high jump (2.00m), and
Chris Pickering (15.41m) in the weight throw.
Nicole Breker had another fine weekend for the U of R’s women’s team, finishing in first place in both the 60-metre hurdles (8.88 s) and the long jump (5.66m).
The Cougars, who have had six different athletes hit a total of nine CIS standards this season, will now prepare for the Canada West Championships. The conference meet will be held on Feb. 26 and 27 in Edmonton.
