Dinos win in four over Cougars

The University of Regina’s men’s volleyball team took a set from No. 4-ranked Calgary, but lost 3-1 to the Dinos on Friday night at the Centre for Kinesiology, Health & Sport.

The Dinos took the first set by a score of 25-20, but the Cougars tied up the match after grinding out a 30-28 victory in the second set. Calgary responded with a big 25-10 win in the third set and clinched the match with a 25-18 win in the fourth.

Fourth-year middle David Egan had a huge game for Calgary, leading the Dinos in kills (15), hitting percentage (.481), and total blocks (9). Graham Vigrass had 14 killls for the Dinos, while Tom Porta led all players with 18 digs.

Colin Finch led the Cougars with 16 kills, while Jamie Wilkins had nine kills on 15 attacks for a blistering .600 hitting percentage. Mathew Brooks had a team-high 13 digs, while Drew Smith led Regina at the net with six total blocks.

The win improves Calgary’s record to 10-3, while the Cougars fall to 0-13.

The two teams will play again on Saturday night at the CKHS. First serve is scheduled for 6 p.m.
