The University of Regina's Wyatt Baiton led the Cougars with a third-place finish out of 239 runners in the Division II category at the Roy Griak Invitational on Saturday morning.

Baiton completed the eight-kilometre Les Bolstad Golf Course track in a time of 25:47, finishing behind only Southwest Baptist's Michael Pierce (25:22) and Minnesota State's James Krajsa (25:40).

Regina's Dale Wig also had a strong race, finishing in tenth place overall with a time of 26:12.

Iain Fyfe (27:14) finished in 47th place for the Cougars, while Eric Benjamin (27:36) placed 64th.

The U of R men did not place in the team standings, as they only brought four runners and five are needed to field a team.

Two members of the University of Regina's women's team made the trip as well, led by Melissa Petersen's 22nd place finish. Petersen registered a time of 23:47 on the six-kilometre course. Karissa LePage finished the course in 24:31, placing 56th out of the 287 runners.

The U of R's men's and women's cross country teams will be back in action next weekend at the University of Saskatchewan Open.
