Baiton paces field at Cougar Trot Open

Running in his first meet at the collegiate level, the University of Regina’s Wyatt Baiton won the Cougar Trot Open on Saturday afternoon with a time of 26:12 over the eight-kilometre Wascana Park course.

Baiton finished ahead of teammate Dale Wig, whose time of 26:27 put him in second place. Eric Benjamin (6th, 27:38) and Iain Fyfe (8th, 27:53) also finished in the top ten for the Cougars.

Running for the Saskatchewan Huskies, Caitlin Warkentin took first place on the women’s side with a time of 19:01 over five kilometres. The top U of R finisher was rookie Karissa LePage, who placed sixth with a time of 20:13. Right behind her was Melissa Petersen (7th, 20:21).

The Cougars will be in action next weekend in Minneapolis, where they’ll run in the Roy Griak Invitational on the campus of the University of Minnesota.
