The Saskatchewan Volleyball Association announced Monday that setter
Tiffany Herman, middle blocker
Solveig Nilson (pictured), and outside hitters
Kaitlyn Hughes,
Roxanne Olynyk,
Meagan Onstad, and Teal Trehas have all made Team Saskatchewan’s roster in women’s volleyball for the 2009 Canada Summer Games.
The six University of Regina players comprise more than half of the team’s 11-player roster for the event, which is scheduled to begin on August 23 in Charlottetown.
Herman, Nilson, and Onstad will all enter their third seasons of CIS eligibility with the U of R next year. Hughes and Olynyk will be second-year players, while Trehas played with Dr. Martin LeBoldus HS last season and will be a rookie with the Cougars during the 2009-10 campaign.
Herman’s twin sister Ashley, a middle for the Delaware State Hornets, was also named to the team. The squad will be coached by Myron Mehler, Leanne McGettigan, and Eric Marchildon.
Team Saskatchewan finished in fifth place out of 12 teams at the last Canada Summer Games, which was held in Regina back in 2005. That team featured four players that suited up for the U of R, including Katherine Diduck, Sarah Foster, Tammy Jule, and current Cougar
Beth Clark.
