Maja Kralovcova, a member of the University of Regina’s women’s basketball team, was awarded the school’s prestigious President’s Medal during convocation ceremonies last week.

The University of Regina President's Medal is awarded at each convocation to a student receiving a first degree who has shown academic excellence as well as major leadership in and commitment to extra-curricular activities while a student. Kralovcova shared the award with Samantha Risling, a student in the Faculty of Education.

“Maja and Samantha are extraordinary young people who have achieved academic excellence, while contributing to the health and strength of the community," says University of Regina president Dr. Vianne Timmons. "I'm very proud that Maja and Samantha are being recognized for their remarkable contributions and successes, both in the classroom and the community.”

Kralovcova is graduating with a Bachelor of Kinesiology with a major in Fitness and Lifestyle and a minor in Psychology and a graduating average of 83.94 per cent. Hailing from Prague, Czech Republic, she first came to Saskatchewan as a high school exchange student and completed her Grade 12 year in Macklin. She has been a member of the women's basketball team for five seasons, garnering multiple Academic All-Canadian selections.

She has consistently been on the Dean's Honour List and was the recipient of a number of scholarships and awards. Kralovcova also demonstrated an extraordinary level of commitment to extracurricular activities, as she has been a member of the Kinesiology and Health Studies Student Society and has represented the Kinesiology and Health Studies students on the University of Regina Students’ Union. She has worked for a number of charitable organizations, including the Heart and Stroke Foundation, Terry Fox Run, Adopt-a-Family, Operation Christmas Child, Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation, Raise-a-Reader, and the MS Society.

Kralovcova, a 6’2” wing, appeared in 83 conference games over her five seasons with the Cougars. She averaged 4.4 points and 3.4 rebounds per game during her career and blocked a total of 57 shots.
