University of Regina men’s hockey head coach Blaine Sautner announced Monday that former Bonnyville Pontiacs centre Craig Cuthbert will join the Cougars for the 2009-10 season.

Cuthbert, who served as Bonnyville’s team captain, was injured for a large portion of last season but still scored 19 goals and added 13 assists for 32 points in 38 regular season games. He also scored three goals in the Pontiacs’ four playoff games.

“Craig is a real honest, hard-working player,” Sautner said. “He’s the type of kid that leads by example. He has the ability to raise the intensity of other players around him and will be a great addition to our lineup.”

Cuthbert also spent the 2007-08 season with Bonnyville, scoring 12 goals and 26 assists in 55 games. Prior to his two years with the Pontiacs, he played a total of 178 regular season and playoff games with Kelowna and Saskatoon over three full seasons in the Western Hockey League.

Cuthbert, who stands 5’9” and weighs in at 180 lbs., is the second member of Sautner’s 2009 recruiting class.
