Slinn takes bronze medal at Grand Prix of Germany

University of Regina wrestler Jasmine Slinn secured a bronze medal at the Grand Prix of Germany over the weekend after winning four of five matches at 48 kilograms.

Slinn defeated Christin Kupfernagel in the opening round of the tournament, then recorded victories over Sigrun Dobner and Caroline Lövkvist to advance to the semifinals. Slinn then lost in the semifinals to fellow Canadian Lindsay Rushton, but recovered to defeat Poland’s Angelika Glab 0-1, 1-0, 2-1 to earn the bronze medal. A total of 22 wrestlers competed at 48 kilograms.

Lisa McKibben also competed at the Grand Prix, but lost her opening round match in the 67-kilogram class to Norway’s Jenny Aardalen.

Both Slinn and McKibben will return to Europe in August, as they have qualified for the Junior World Championships in Turkey.
