Chelsea Valois’ second-place finish in the pentathlon highlighted the performance of the University of Regina’s track & field teams on Day 1 of the 2009 CIS Championships in Windsor, Ont.

Valois finished with 3621 points, just 66 behind Western Ontario’s Jen Cotton for first place. Her top event was the high jump, which she won after clearing the bar at 1.62 metres. Valois also finished in second place in both the shot put (10.40m) and the long jump (5.47m), helping her win her first medal at the CIS championships and score eight team points for the Cougars.
