Cougars downed in shootout by UBC

Game Summary

The University of Regina’s women’s hockey team suffered a 2-1 shootout loss to UBC on Saturday night in a Canada West game at Thunderbird Arena in Vancouver.

Christi Capozzi scored the lone goal of the shootout for UBC as Melinda Choy stopped all five Regina attempts to secure the win.

The only regulation goals were scored in a span of 33 seconds in the first period. Rae-Lynn Somogyi scored on the power play from Kelsie Graham and Rianne Wight at 14:43, but Rayna Cruickshank’s goal at 15:16 tied the game at one.

Choy also stopped 23 shots in regulation and overtime for UBC. Lisa Urban made 29 saves for the Cougars.

The shootout loss drops Regina’s record to 3-5-4. The Cougars will return to action on Jan. 8 and 9 at home against UBC.
