The No. 3-ranked Alberta Golden Bears recorded a three-set sweep over the Regina Cougars on Saturday night in a Canada West men’s volleyball match at the Centre for Kinesiology, Health & Sport.

Alberta posted wins of 25-17, 25-16, and 25-18 to clinch the match and earn its second straight-sets win over the Cougars in as many nights.

Thomas Jarmoc and Jason DeRocco led the Alberta attack. Both hit at least .500 for the match, as Jarmoc led all players with 11 kills and DeRocco added ten. Tanner Nault controlled a Golden Bears offence that hit for .360 as a team, as the fourth-year setter dished out 28 assists and tied for the match lead with six digs.

Colin Finch came on strong towards the end of the match for the Cougars and ended up with six kills on 11 attacks and a .364 hitting percentage. Taylor Anderson and Mathew Brooks tied for the team lead with seven kills apiece, while Derek Delavau had 31 assists.

The win improves Alberta’s record to 6-2 on the season, while the Cougars fall to 0-8 with the loss.

Saturday’s game was Regina’s final match of the first half of the schedule, as the Cougars will return to action at home on Jan. 8 and 9 against UBC. Alberta will finish off its pre-Christmas slate with a pair of road games at Saskatchewan next weekend.
