The No. 3-ranked Alberta Golden Bears took a straight-sets victory over the Regina Cougars on Friday night in a Canada West men’s volleyball match at the Centre for Kinesiology, Health & Sport.
The Golden Bears controlled the first set, winning by a 25-11 margin. The final two sets of the match were closer, but Alberta recorded 25-19 and 25-17 wins to clinch the victory.
Jason DeRocco led Alberta with 11 kills, hit .533 for the match, and tied for the team lead with six digs. Fifth-year outside hitter Thomas Jarmoc had 8 kills, a .500 hitting percentage, and a match-high seven total blocks. Tanner Nault dished out 30 assists for the Golden Bears, who improve to 5-2 and stay in possession of third place in Canada West with the win.
Alberta hit for an impressive .429 during the match, while the Cougars hit at an .072 clip.
Mathew Brooks had a match-high 12 kills, giving him exactly 800 over his five-season career with the Cougars (0-7).
Derek Delavau led Regina in assists (29), digs (4), and total blocks (3).
