The University of Regina’s men’s basketball team had its first game action on Thursday night, winning a non-conference contest by a lopsided score of 102-37 over Medicine Hat College at the Centre for Kinesiology, Health & Sport.

The game was in little doubt from the outcome, as the Rattlers trailed 29-2 after the first quarter and 54-8 at the half.

Fourth-year forward Lynn Gee hit a game-high three triples and led the Cougars with 14 points in his 21 minutes on the floor. Marek Downarowicz had 12 points for Regina, while Paul Schubach scored ten points to become the only other Cougar to break into double figures in points.

Neil Olukoya, a transfer from Medicine Hat, led all players with 13 rebounds and added eight points. Darius Mole, who transferred to the U of R from Scottsdale Community College, fell just one point short of a double-double and ended up with nine points and ten rebounds.

Keith Yalowega, who was on the U of R’s roster last season, led the Rattlers with 11 points.

The Cougars will be back in action next weekend with home games against Minot State (Oct. 16) and Williston State College (Oct. 17).
