Saturday marked the third consecutive meet that Baiton was the top Cougar finisher, as he won the Cougar Trot Open back on Sept. 19 and placed third out of 239 runners in the Division II category at last weekend’s Roy Griak Invitational in Minneapolis.
Dale Wig was the second Cougar across the line, finishing in fifth place with a time of 23:18.
Iain Fyfe also ran well, as his time of 23:51 put him in 12th place.
Eric Benjamin cracked the top 20 with a time of 24:16, while No. 5 runner
Miguel Potosme placed 48th (25:49).
The Cougars finished behind the Calgary Dinos and Moose Jaw Internationals in the team standings.
On the women’s side,
Melissa Petersen finished in 14th place (16:48) and
Karissa LePage placed 15th (16:50) on the 4.5-kilometre course. Petersen and LePage were the only two members of the U of R’s women’s team to make the trek north to Saskatoon.
The Cougar harriers will have a weekend off before returning to action on Oct. 16 at the Minot State Open.
