Paul Schubach drained a three-pointer with 16 seconds remaining in the fourth quarter to give the University of Regina’s men’s basketball team an 89-86 victory over Williston State College on Saturday afternoon in a non-conference game at the Centre for Kinesiology, Health & Sport.

Williston State’s Jarek Hansen had a chance to tie it at the end of the game, but his three-point attempt from the right baseline rimmed out.

Kris Heshka led the Cougars with 23 points and fell just one rebound short of registering a double-double. Jamal Williams had 21 points and six steals for Regina, while second-year guard Sterling Nostedt was 5-for-12 from beyond the arc and ended up with 18 points.

Charlie Chapman scored a game-high 26 points for the Tetons and led all players with 33 minutes on the floor. Tarell Clark recorded the game’s lone double-double, scoring 18 points and pulling down 13 rebounds before fouling out late in the fourth quarter. Luke Martinez scored 12 points in the game’s first eight minutes, but left the game after rolling an ankle and did not return.

The win improves Regina’s non-conference record to 3-0.

The Cougars will be back in action next weekend in Saskatoon at the Graham Construction Shootout. Regina will play McGill on Thursday night, Saskatchewan on Friday night, and Thompson Rivers on Saturday night.
