Andrew Malawski scored two CIS standards at the Canada West Swimming Championships in Saanich, B.C. on Friday, as the fourth-year swimmer secured seventh-place finishes in both the 50-metre butterfly and the 50-metre breaststroke.

During the 2008 conference meet, Malawski won a bronze medal in the 50 breast with a time of 30.08 seconds. He was actually faster this year, but his time of 30.01 seconds put him in seventh place. He also hit the CIS standard in the 50-metre butterfly (25.97 s).

On the women’s side, Linda Duarte finished in 13th place in the 50 fly (29.84 s) and 18th place in the 50-metre backstroke (32.40 s). Maggi Pettit placed 21st in the 50 back (33.35 s) and 28th in the 50 fly (31.99 s), while Mya Demchuk placed 22nd in the 50 fly (30.94 s).

The U of R’s four representatives at the conference meet will compete again on Saturday in the second day of the three-day event, which wraps up on Sunday at the Saanich Commonwealth Place.
