Andrew Malawski highlighted the Cougars’ performance at the 2009 Regina Optimist Dolphins Olympian on the weekend, winning both of the races he entered and setting a season best in the 50-metre butterfly.
Malawski won the 50-metre freestyle with a time of 25.14 seconds, then won the 50 fly with a season-best time of 27.33 seconds. Both times are Canada West standards, and Malawski is expected to finish strong in both events at the conference meet next weekend in Victoria.
Linda Duarte finished second in both of her races, including the 50 fly (30.91 s) and the 200-metre individual medley (2:32.70). Both times hit the conference standard, but Duarte has already recorded faster times earlier this season.
Mya Demchuk entered five races with her best result coming in the 200 fly, where she finished in second place with a time of 2:34.75.
Maggi Pettit’s best finish at the Olympian was a third-place showing in the 50 free.
Hector Fukushi also swam in two events for the Cougars, finishing in second place in the 200-metre breaststroke (2:41.07) and in third place in the 200-metre IM (2:25.89).
Malawski, Duarte, Demchuk, and Pettit will all compete next at the Canada West meet in Victoria next weekend.
