Duarte collects two CIS standards at Prairie Winter International

The University of Regina’s Linda Duarte collected two CIS qualifying times and two first-place finishes over the weekend at the Prairie Winter International in Winnipeg.

Duarte finished in first in both the 100-metre (1:04.00) and 200-metre (2:21.59) butterfly and hit the CIS standard in both events. Duarte becomes the first Cougar this season to register a qualifying time for the CIS Championships, which will be hosted by the University of British Columbia from Feb. 19 to 21.

Duarte also improved her season-best times in the 200-metre freestyle (2:12.94) and the 200-metre individual medley (2:26.86), both of which are faster than the Canada West standard.

Mya Demchuk hit her first two Canada West standards of the season, as the fifth-year swimmer placed fourth in the 200-metre butterfly (2:28.40) and sixth in the 100-metre butterfly (1:06.27).

Maggi Pettit hit her third conference standard of the season, recording a time of 33.41 seconds in the 50-metre backstroke. Pettit also improved her conference qualifying times in the 50-metre freestyle (27.32 seconds) and the 100-metre freestyle (1:00.03)
