Men's Results
Dale Wig was the top finisher for the University of Regina's men's cross country team at the CIS Championships on Saturday afternoon.
Wig finished in 31st place, completing the 10-kilometre course at the Plains of Abraham in 33:45. The result was Wig's best performance at a CIS meet, as he finished in 49th place in 2007 and in 71st place in 2006.
The next Cougar across the line was rookie
Iain Fyfe, who finished in 50th place with a time of 34:06.
Both Wig and Fyfe were named Canada West second-team all-stars after the race.
Eric Benjamin finished in 68th place (34:45), while
Scott Mitchell placed 89th (35:58) for the Cougars, who were ranked No. 10 in the CIS coming into the meet.
The Cougars didn't place in the team standings, as five runners are needed to field a squad.
Kelly Wiebe, who had been the team's top runner all season long, was unable to run due to an injury.
