University of Regina swimmers Andrew Malawski and Maggi Pettit both hit Canada West standards in the first meet of the season, as the Cougars travelled to Saskatoon to compete in the Harry Bailey Memorial Invitational over the weekend.

Malawski hit the conference standard in both the 50-metre freestyle (25.58 s) and the 100-metre breaststroke (1:09.43). Both of his times were set in the preliminaries. He finished first in the 100 breast final and didn’t enter the 50 free final.

Pettit also hit two Canada West standards, including the 50-metre freestyle (27.89 s) and the 100-metre freestyle (1:01.79). The third-year swimmer finished in first place in the finals of both events, and also recorded a third-place finish in the 100-metre individual medley (1:13.38).

Mya Demchuk also swam for the Cougars in Saskatoon. She placed second in the finals of both the 100-metre breaststroke (1:23.75) and the 200-metre butterfly (2:36.97).

The U of R’s next meet is scheduled for Nov. 22 and 23 in Regina.
