The University of Regina’s men’s cross country team placed runners in each of the top four positions to win the team title at the Minot State Invitational on Friday afternoon.

Kelly Wiebe finished the eight-kilometre course in 25:29 to win his third event of the season. He was followed by Iain Fyfe (26:25), Scott Mitchell (26:31), and Eric Benjamin (27:21).

“The guys are continuing to progress as we’d hoped and are setting up well for the Stewart Cup,” head coach Carla Nicholls said. “The Stewart will be an extremely important race and will let us see how we stack up as we go head-to-head against some other strong teams.”

Kris Frisk finished in ninth place with a time of 28:50 and Miguel Potosme was 10th (28:57).

On the women’s side, Melissa Petersen placed third (20:05), Kaytlyn Criddle was fifth (20:11), Portia Barker was seventh (20:22), and Karen Lawson was ninth (21:04).

The meet was held at the Souris Valley Golf Course in Minot, N.D.

Next up for the No. 9-ranked Cougars is the Stewart Cup, scheduled for Oct. 25 at Canmore Park in Calgary.
